FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Listening Skills

Listening skills are extremely important in interpersonal and career communications. Listening skills allow us to receive and effectively interpret verbal messages during an interaction. Listening is crucial to all successful communication. If there's one communication skill you must master, then Listening skill is it.

Good listening skills have numerous benefits in personal relationships, including: a greater number of social contacts, improved self-confidence and esteem, better grades in school and at work, and better overall health and well-being. According to a study published in the March 2021 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Associations, Listening skills may be particularly important for mental-health professionals who cater to clients with psychiatric disorders. Also according to the study, people with psychiatric disorders were more likely to respond actively and positively to therapeutic interventions if they were actively responsive, rather than passive listeners.

When people are trying to learn how to listen, there are certain behaviors that can help increase listening skills. First, listen carefully to what the speaker says, because non-verbal cues tell us whether or not someone is engaged and listening. You may want to pay attention to body language such as breathing, facial expression, and other non-verbal cues. Paying attention to non-verbal cues can also help us decide whether the speaker has shared enough information and whether we want to pursue further conversation. Also, you can determine when someone is talking too fast or not speaking at all. Lastly, being an attentive listener can make you more receptive to another person's needs and desires because your mind has processed the information and can actually tune into what another person is saying, even if you are not consciously listening.

It is natural for us to become distracted, especially when there are many people in front of you, or when you are experiencing some type of sensory input such as music, sounds, or even light. Being distracted can sometimes be a good thing, because it prepares you to take in new information. However, when you become distracted constantly, this can be a sign of ADHD or other learning problems such as selective hearing. If you want to increase your listening skills, it is important that you try to stay focused and that you do not let yourself get distracted. Here are several tips to keep focused and to pay attention:

Stay Focused. Listening skills include maintaining a focused attention span, which is very hard to do with a distracted mind. One simple way to stay focused when you are getting distracted is to notice when you start to get distracted and then reframe your attention back to the topic at hand. To practice good listening skills, it is a good idea to practice noticing when you start to get distracted and then reframe your attention back to the topic. This simple technique is effective because it forces you to stop and evaluate your thought process and then re-frames it.

Listening Skills - As we have noted, one of the most difficult things for people who have ADHD is paying attention. A good listener can help improve the quality of your listening, which will improve your ability to learn. Listening skills are also necessary for effective communication, so being a good listener goes a long way to helping you communicate effectively. This skill will go far in a variety of settings, including school, at work, with friends, family, and on your own.

Effective Listening Skills. Another difficult aspect of ADHD is communicating, which makes paying attention more difficult. A good listening skill is necessary for effective listening, which is something you can practice by practicing asking a question while you are Listening. For example, if you are reading a book, and you notice that the sentence is getting quite long, you can redirect your attention by asking the other person a question that will force them to pause and think about the sentence.

Active Listening Skills. One of the biggest difficulties for people who suffer from ADHD is paying attention and following directions. In order to effectively pay attention, you must learn to actively listen. While a passive listener may be more efficient for some situations, an active listener is important in other situations. You can learn how to be more active by asking questions and taking part in discussions.
